I have quite a collection of announcements for you this time. They relate
to:

The University of Gloucestershire Archives and Special Collections

Wiltshire Heritage Museum Archive & Library (Devizes)

Plymouth and West Devon Record Office

Devon Record Office

West Sussex Record Office

Bancroft Library (Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives)

The British Postal Museum & Archive

The University of Gloucestershire Archives and Special Collections will be
closed to all visitors from 29 November 2010 - 3 January 2011 inclusive.
This is due to major refurbishment work in the Archive Room. For more
information please visit www.glos.ac.uk/archives

Thank you to Louise Clough, Information Adviser (Archives) for this news.

Due to major refurbishment, the Wiltshire Heritage Museum Archive & Library
(Devizes) will be closed on Saturdays until further notice. It is currently
open Tuesday to Friday 10am-5pm. For more information visit
www.wiltshireheritage.org.uk

Thanks to Dr Ellie Pridgeon, Archivist and Librarian for this news.

Plymouth and West Devon Record Office will be closing to the public for
refurbishment from 13 December 2010 to 7 January 2011 inclusive.

During this period it will continue to answer enquiries via letter, email
and telephone and will be operating an appointment-only service from
Plymouth Civic Centre (Royal Parade) for customers wishing to access the
resources they offer via microfiche or computer. Free access to both 'Find
My Past' and 'Ancestry.co.uk' will be available from this access point.

Original document consultation is, however, suspended for the entire period.
They apologise for any inconvenience caused. More details are at
www.plymouth.gov.uk/archives

Thanks to Louisa Mann, City Archivist for this news.

Devon Record Office (www.devon.gov.uk/record_office.htm) will be closed for
stocktaking and other essential collection management tasks from Monday 7
February until Friday 18 February 2011 inclusive. It will re-open at 10.00
a.m. on Monday 21 February 2011.

Thank you to Brian Carpenter, Archivist for this news.

West Sussex Record Office will be closed for its annual 'Closed fortnight'
from Monday 29 November, reopening on Monday 13 December, enabling the
undertaking of major boxing, storage and cataloguing projects. The Record
Office will be closed during the Christmas period from Saturday 25 December,
reopening on Wednesday 29 December and from Saturday 1 January 2011,
reopening on 4 January 2011.

Thanks to Susan Millard, Searchroom Archivist for this news.

Bancroft Library (Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives) building
will not reopen to the public until the new year. Unforeseen delays have
been experienced in the Phase 1 essential health & safety works currently
under way, including a long wait to receive the necessary planning approvals
for the type of Portland stone and London brick to be used. The relocation
of stock within the building, cleaning of the collection storage areas and
reconfiguration of the reading room is also likely to take longer than
planned. They apologise for the inconvenience this extended closure will
cause to their users and expect to re-open in mid-January 2011. They
continue to offer a limited remote enquiry service by phone and email during
the closure - call 020 7364 1290 or email localhistory at towerhamlets.gov.uk.

Thanks to Malcolm Barr-Hamilton, Borough Archivist for this news.

The British Postal Museum & Archive will be closed for stocktaking from
Monday 10 January to Friday 21 January 2011 (inclusive). During this time
telephone and email enquiries will be dealt with as usual, although there
may be some delay in responses. They will reopen to the public on Monday 24
January 2011. Please note that they will be increasing Saturday openings in
2011. They will open on the second Saturday of every month. When they are
open on Saturday they will be closed on the following Monday. Full details
of opening times can be found at
www.postalheritage.org.uk/visiting/archive/#openingtimes.

Thanks to Helen Dafter, Archivist for this news.
