Notes
It's not known how old the equipment is, but probably at
least 20 years. The equipment almost certainly needs some professional TLC
from an engineer, and a contact could be provided
The PC70 was launched in the UK in about October 1984 and
the PC80 a year later. Both have been fantastically successful microform
reader-printer workhorses. Both use the same toner cartridges and lamps;
they both produce A4 prints on ordinary plain paper. Essentially the PC80
is a vertical version of the PC70. The PC80 is far more commonly used for
film, though it can handle fiche perfectly satisfactorily. The PC70 is
designed for fiche, though film adaptors exist, designed for occasional use.
This information is given in the respective leaflets -
Screen sizes for both PC70 & PC80 300mm X 300mm
The PC70 is 562mm high X 803mm wide X 655mm deep and weighs
63KG
The PC80 is 1297mm high X 530mm wide X 683mm deep and
weighs 72KG
There's a picture of a PC70 at
www.alteksys.com/usedequip.html
and of a PC80 at www.doc-imaging.com/pc70_80.htm
The premises where this equipment for donation is housed now
need to be cleared asap. Collection would be the responsibility of whoever
took the equipment; for a reader-printer a medium to large hatchback or
estate car should suffice and would obviate most of the risk and the
protective packing that would be needed if third-party transport were to be
used. The mirror of the PC80 would be secured for transport and how to
unpack it could be demonstrated - but a packing service is not being
offered!
